Women's Golf

New To Golf

Blackwood Golf Club welcomes women and girls who are new to golf. The easiest way to get into golf is to enrol in our “Give Golf a Go” program – unbelievable value at $75! Lots of our current members started golf this way. All new Members can access our successful buddy system.

Weekday Golf

Around 70 women play every Tuesday morning in our Weekday Competition over 9 or 18 holes. The Competition caters for players of all levels with prizes across 4 grades. Pro Shop competitions are held on all other days but you don’t have to enter a competition. Many of our women also play socially on Thursdays or Fridays and there is always someone to play with.

Weekend Golf

Women are welcome to play on Saturdays and Sundays. Our Saturday group book in at any time and play the competition of the day. On Sundays a Business Women's competition hits off around 11am – generally this is women who work or students. They meet as a group at the first tee before hitting off, mixing the playing groups up so everyone gets to know each other. Women also play socially on Sunday afternoons.

Pennant and Inter Club Competitions

Blackwood fields 4 teams in Match Play competitions against other clubs. Currently we have teams in Div 1 and Div 3 Pennants, Cleek Stick, handi-cap match play (GA 16-25.4 handicap range) and Hickory Stick, handicap match play (GA 25.5-36.4 handicap range). We also have a number of in-ter-club competitions throughout the year for all golfing levels which provides opportunities to play at many other golf courses.

  • What do I wear?

We’re a friendly and relaxed club. Girls and women generally wear pants, 3/4 length capri trousers, shorts or skirts, with a sports shirt with a collar. Denim jeans and track pants are not suitable. The clothes you wear on the course can be worn in the clubhouse. If you don’t have golf shoes it’s fine to wear joggers or walking shoes. If you are unsure about what to wear, simply come up to the club for a social drink and a look around. If you would like one of our members to show you around please contact the Office.

  • What happens after the Give Golf a Go program?

After this introduction we hope you’ll be hooked on golf and be interested in one of our membership packages. As a member you’ll be supported whether you’re playing socially for fun and fitness, or want to improve your game. Blackwood offers new members the option of a golfing buddy to familiarise them with the club and the course. A buddy will be happy to play a round of golf with you, introduce you to other members and answer any questions.

  • How can I continue to improve my golf?

Like any sport we all get better by playing and practising. You can arrange extra lessons on your own or access group lessons (for a small fee). The Women’s Committee organise optional group practice sessions in the warmer months for golfers of all standards.
